I am a recovering METH addict I have been off meth for 5 years as of August 25. I went through the drug court here in I.F. and it changed my life. I get so angry with the people who think they can't get off of it but WE CAN! Also I did an article for the Post Register a few years ago and told my nightmare of a story. But one thing that frustrates me is NO ONE is telling these kids and people the real truth about the effects from Meth use it destroys our brains I have memory problems and I also have problems with depression and anxiety, I have learned how to deal with these side effects but I think it needs to be researched a little more on the long term effects it has on us! When I came off meth it was the worst thing ever. I was so depressed and the anxiety I went through was CRAZY! I would not have been able to do it by myself I had to be on meds for all the mental problems for two years just to get a handle on it! Treatment centers need to focus on the mental state of mind we are in when getting clean. I know now that the reason it took me so long to get off it was because of the depression and stuff I was locked up for 3 months got the drug out of my system but then the hard part came the anxiety and depression. If it would not have been for mental health and drug court making me get on meds it would have been a disaster for me. I probably would not be alive today. I asked for help so many times but by the time anyone had the time to help me, I was high again and didn't need the help (as I told myself) We need a place for meth addicts to go to as soon as they call for help, not have to wait for a day or two weeks to get into a safe place.
